Inherent requirements
When choosing a course you should check to see if it has any inherent requirements (these will be noted on the course page). These usually apply for courses that are preparing you for a career where you will be working closely with people such as Leadership courses.
They are not assessable admissions criteria but are required for you to successfully complete the course. Researching the inherent requirements will allow you to make an informed decision about the course.
The course page (found in step 1) will list all of the admission criteria for your course.
International students, we recognise a number of different qualifications including overseas qualifications; tertiary studies that include studies in a bachelor’s degree, completed diplomas or advanced diplomas and preparation programs.
Additional admissions criteria
For some courses there may be additional admissions criteria such as an interview, audition or portfolio. This will be listed on the course page.
Course Specific Prerequisites
Some courses have a course prerequisite, this will be listed on the course page. This means that you need to have completed and achieved a specified result in a recognised subject.
Some education courses also have prerequisites, these will be listed on the course page.
English language requirements
English language requirements depend on the course, your country of origin and your educational background. For most courses you may be able to meet the Institute’s English language requirements by completing a recognised Year 12 qualification in English in an English-speaking country.
International Students: For more information in regards to English Language Proficiency please see the dedicated section under course general information (section 4).
For some courses or units of study we assume that you have reached a certain level of knowledge or have passed a relevant subject or equivalent in your education* this will be listed on the course page.
Students are generally advised against taking a unit of study or course for which they do not have the assumed knowledge.
If you do not have the assumed knowledge for your course we strongly recommend that you undertake a Bridging course.
We run Bridging courses in subjects such as Statistics and Research Methodology. Each course is held as a workshop that runs over several days introducing the fundamentals of these complex subjects.

You should also research financial support options that may be available to you. Most domestic students are eligible for the Australian Government's HECS-HELP and SA-HELP loan schemes.

To study in Australia after your admission to ALTIN you will need to apply for a student visa from the Australian Government

Entry requirements:
Applicants wishing to commence study at ALTIN must satisfy the Institute’s general academic and English Language Competence (ELC) requirements to be eligible for a place.

General Entry Requirements:
- Proof of prior qualification(s)
- English Language Requirements.
Applicants must satisfy one of the prior qualification requirements:
- Academic study
- Tertiary study
- Professional experience
Applicants are required to meet one of the following criteria with a competitive result:
- Successfully completed equivalent to a minimum of half a year of full-time study of a higher education program at a recognised higher education provider
- Completed an award from a recognised training organisation at Certificate IV or above
- Passed an ALTIN literacy and numeracy test and have relevant work experience, or
- Completed an ALTIN Foundations Studies program, Bridging program or equivalent, or
- Qualified for Special Entry (contact us for details)
- Completed a secondary education qualification equivalent to SACE, such as an interstate year 12 or equivalent international qualification.

According to the LEADERSHIP INSTRUMENT ORGANISATION’s regulations, all Leadership Instrument related studies and research must comply with their policies. Please refer to the Leadership Instrument Organisation's requirements.

Tip for International Students:
To meet the academic requirements of an Australian qualification consider taking a Foundation course, also known as Bridging study. These are intensive courses that will help you to meet the entry requirements, usually one year long, and are offered by most higher education institutions.

Our course requires you to read comprehensive learner workbooks, undertake a range of written assessments and engage in online discussions.
Students are required to be proficient in English and be skilled in computer usage.
International students: Applied and Continuing Education School will provide you with a Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) test once you enroll to help determine if you require any additional training or support to complete this course.
How to demonstrate your proficiency in English?
Depending on your educational background and country of origin, you may need to provide evidence of your English proficiency to be able to study with us.
Your first language is English:
If English is your first language, you need to have citizenship or permanent long-term residency (minimum ten years) and have completed secondary or higher education (tertiary) studies in an English-speaking country.
Some variations apply to specific degrees which have external accreditation requirements.
Your first language is not English:
If English is not your first language, you will need to provide proof of your English language proficiency before you can commence your studies at ALTIN.
You can do this by demonstrating that you have completed specific secondary or tertiary qualifications, by taking an English language skills test, or by completing a relevant English language course at ALTIN.

- Test of English as a Foreign Language: internet-based (TOEFL iBT)
- Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic

Student contributions:
With ALTIN an 'international student' is a person who:
- Is not an Australian citizen
- Is not a New Zealand citizen
- Resides overseas, or resides in Australia on certain visa types other than a student visa
How much do I pay?
International students studying with ALTIN are required to pay upfront fees for their program. Please refer to the program pages for your fees.
Single course enrolments:
If you are studying a single course with ALTIN online or on-campus as an international student, your fees are determined by the on-campus program you are enrolled in. Please refer to your program page for fees.
If you are an international student studying a single course that is not part of a qualification or degree (ie if you are enrolled as a non-award international student) ALTIN online single courses are $1,575 per course (PACE School) and $3,313 (Leadership and Psychology & Thinking School) for 2021 and after per 16 credits.
When do I pay my fees?
After the initial payment is received due dates for tuition fees are set for each study period where there are enrolments. There are two due dates per study period and these are detailed on the invoice.
How do I pay?
Invoices can be paid via ALTIN pay, CC on campus, via Phone and Bank Transfer (conditions apply).
What are my responsibilities?
You are responsible for paying fees by the due dates and staying out of Bad Financial Standing (BFS).
Additional course costs:
Relevant for most students
Most courses and units of study have no additional fees however there are recommended course materials such as books, readers, materials and equipment which would need to be purchased.
For some courses there may also be other additional courses costs that could be substantial. For more information please read the course details.
Credit card surcharges
We accept a number of payment methods. Please note that credit card surcharges apply, and differ depending on the card used.
Application processing fee
Relevant for international students
International students who apply to study onshore need to pay an application processing fee of A$250. This fee covers all the applications made within one year.
This fee can be paid by Visa or MasterCard by completing the secure online credit card payment screen at the end of the online application form; please note credit card surcharges apply.
If you can't pay via credit card please contact your bank to obtain a bank draft. The draft must be made payable to ‘Australia Leadership and Thinking Institute’ and be in Australian dollars (A$250). Please write your full name, date of birth and online application reference (IPU) number on the back of the bank draft and send it to applications@altin.com.au
We do not accept scanned cheques.
You may be able to have related study or work experience credited to your degree meaning you may not have to repeat similar units and could graduate sooner.
This is available for equivalent:
- Units of study taken at another university or higher education institution
- Qualifications from a higher education institution or vocational education and training institution
(including TAFE and private providers – limited to some faculties/courses) - Relevant work experience
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is when your previous studies or work experiences are recognised and counted towards your current degree.
RPL can be granted as specific credit, non-specific credit in a given discipline, reduced volume of learning or a waiver.
RPL Credit may be awarded once your application has been assessed.

Types of credit available:
The following types of credit are available.
- Specific credit. This is credit granted for a specific unit of study when you have previously undertaken the exact equivalent at another institution.
- Non-specific credit. This is for when there is no equivalent unit of study, credit may be considered for a certain number of credit points at a specific level.
Please note
You should be aware that accepting credit may:
- Reduce your course duration
- Reduce your fees (this will be reflected in your fee statement or Commonwealth Assistance Notice)
- Affect your study load, which can affect your eligibility for government assistance such as Youth Allowance, Austudy and Abstudy
If you are a student visa holder you need to consider student visa requirements and eligibility for future visas. If your expected course duration is decreased we are required to notify the Department of Home Affairs.
How it works:
You will usually apply for RPL Credit as part of your application for your course. You can also apply after you have accepted your offer.
When you apply to have your previous studies recognised for credit we will assess the academic transcript and other supporting documents you provide which will allow us to determine if your previous studies are relevant to your new course. We will decide whether any subjects you have previously completed are equivalent to units of study at ALTIN.
Eligibility:
Due to the complexity of the application process we can offer you only general advice about applying, we will not be able to assess whether you will receive RPL Credit until after you have submitted an application.
RPL Credit will not be granted for:
- Study completed more than 10 years ago (for some courses this time limit is reduced to three or five years)
- Units of study with concessional pass grades
- Units of study that are prerequisites for the course you are currently in, or applying for
- Units of study you have attempted and failed in your course
- Studies completed at another tertiary institution that you were excluded from
